So the Directional Buttons & Joy Sticks won't do anything for LOTRO unless SSG worked to have Full Controller Support on it's PC Version. The Steam Deck can have another Operating System installed (Windows 10 being an example and already seen by X amount of folks on Youtube) and pretty much will ensure that as long as you can get whatever a Game needs, it'll run.īut the Steam Deck is just a Computer in a Handheld form and LOTRO only has Partial Controller Support atm. So it still would be the main thing of: It'll be a tiny minority who "might" have the Steam Deck sometime in 2022 and in 2023 and wanting to play LOTRO. I've checked Youtube ever since the Steam Decks started rolling out and folks posting Gameplay Videos and haven't seen anyone put a Lord of the Rings Online Gameplay with the Steam Deck.
If you're using Steam it's literally as easy as install and play.
Steam OS is based on Linux, and lotro runs just fine on Linux, even though it's not officially supported.
There are Videos about the Steam Deck that have recently came out & Software Videos about such are due out very soon as well so there will be plenty of evidence of the Hardware + Software Capabilities and how likely LOTRO could run on such both Natively or through Windows on the Steam Deck. I personally was considering getting a Steam Deck but due to various 2021 decisions decided not to especially when I couldn't get the Steam Deck Dock along with it. If we get lucky LOTRO might work on the Steam Deck Natively but all indications atm are it won't and would be a TINY AUDIENCE who might own Steam Decks and would be wanting to play LOTRO on them.Įdit: To add onto this, the Steam Deck Hardware wise will easily run LOTRO. Sadly, the Steam Deck is not the Savior that will come sweep LOTRO off it's feet and take it heights it could never dream of happening and a Valve + SSG working together is highly unlikely to ensure LOTRO runs Natively on Steam OS for the main way the Steam Dock will run. If you'd buy a Steam Deck as of this Post, you'd be receiving it sometime after Q2 2022 or sometime after July 30th, 2022.
The Steam Deck however doesn't have the Steam Deck Dock announced for when it'll be available which makes the Steam Deck into a Proper Desktop and just needing a Monitor, Keyboard & Mouse hooked up to it which would make, pending LOTRO having whatever issues with Windows 10 running on it, the same experience as any proper PC/Laptop can already get.Īlso a big issue is that the Steam Deck is a limited product, won't see many who Pre-Ordered it or have now ordered it getting theirs anytime soon. However, folks can throw Windows 10 for example onto the Steam Deck and more than likely to be able to run LOTRO just fine as the Steam Deck is just a Computer and can get anything they'd need to get LOTRO run. Steam OS, the Main Default Operating System, likely won't play ball with LOTRO and tbh, LOTRO will likely take a long time for Valve to give it's Status for how it's Playable on the Steam Deck.
